On Saturday May 21, 2011 Round Rock Karate Academy in partnership with the American Red Cross held its first Kick-A-Thon charity event. Through the support and participation of families, friends and students, RRKA was able to raise $4,695.75 for the American Red Cross’ Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami disaster relief! This was monetary donation alone. In addition, RRKA received generous product and goods donations from the following corporate sponsors: Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Z Pizza, MVP Party Rentals & More, The Yogurt Experience and Mrs. Cheong’s cupcakes. The event started off with a great presentation by Officer Jay Rozelle from the Round Rock Police Department who talked about their D.A.R.E. program. We were also honored by three firefighters from the Round Rock Fire Department representing the Rock Solid Fire Safety Team who talked to the children about fire safety and gave the children a fun filled tour of their fire truck. Children of all ages enjoyed the bouncy house from MVP Party Rentals and More.

The event was attended by over 100 supporters. There were a total of 25 students who participated in the kicking segment of the event. With no rest, the students kicked for a straight three minutes with passion, conviction, focus and tenacity for a total of 4,039 kicks! We were indeed humbled and amazed by the contributions of each individual at the event. In particular, RRKA would like to recognize the following three individuals for their generosity and hard work: Philip Davis raised $810 and was recognized with a Kick-A-Thon first place trophy. Alexander Landa was second place and raised $562. Finally, Fabian Lopez was third place and raised $295. RRKA would like to highlight one amazing family, the Yuan family (Howard, Kevin, Nancy) who collectively raised an impressive $1,489.25! They also played an integral part in the setup and logistics of the event and for that RRKA is extremely grateful.

Lastly and most important, it is noteworthy to point out the significance of this particular charity event. The family, students, and friends of RRKA have collectively shown an act of kindness, an act of generosity and more importantly an act of love to those who are less fortunate. Their efforts have impacted a community, a nation and a country and have stirred the hearts of others to make a positive difference. RRKA wishes to express sincere thanks to everyone for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices in making this charity event one to remember.

The tragedy that hit Japan on March 11^th, 2011 has crippled a nation of its resources to help the thousands of people fighting for their survival. The true measure of its devastation can only be felt by the people in the center of this devastating storm. We have an opprotunity to make a difference.

Round Rock Karate Academy in partnership with the American Red Cross is holding a Kick-a-Thon fund raising campaign to benefit the victims of the March 11^th, 2011 Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami. This event will be held on May 21^st, 2011 at Round Rock Karate Academy in Round Rock, TX and all proceeds of this campaign will go to the American Red Cross.
